“Are you done now? How many times are we going to play this game of hide and seek?”
“Until I win.”

When Hattie Covington takes a break from her cheating boyfriend and controlling parents by going to Mexico in a vacation, she ends up being abducted by a notorious cartel in that said country. She then finds out that the one who kidnapped her happens to be the man she last had sex with.

But is it right for her to feel safe in the arms and desire for her abductor?

ARC received via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review but it didn’t affect my opinion about this book.

For a Mexican cartel who did drug, human, and arms trafficking and executions, they were surprisingly….kind. There were moments when somebody didn't treat Hattie right but it was immediately reprimanded by someone. I just expected them to be more cruel to her even if she was innocent. After all, there was no such thing as almost friendly criminals, right?

Also, this cartel was uncharacteristically revealing when it came to their hierarchy. When Hattie asked what could be considered as really personal questions, they answered her without any hesitations.
My sanity depended on my ability to scrub every last memory of him from my mind, my body and my soul.
With the heroine, I oddly sympathized her feelings with Ryker. He was the last person who made her feel that she was wanted so it kinda made sense that he felt safe with her. And she also admitted that she suffered Stockholm syndrome.

However, I had a hard time understanding the interaction between the two MCs. Their feelings were really volatile, especially Ryker's. Their attraction for each other turned out to be mutual but it was Ryker who went hot and cold on Hattie, much to my confusion. Although Hattie did the same, she wasn't mentally stable, what with being abducted and finding out that the man who had sex with you was also your kidnapper, so I guess that was understandable.

Also, I was bummed because I really thought that they would end up together. But I think thought that in the next book they will.

All in all, the story was okay. Although the characters confused me quite a bit, I'd really like to know what will happen on the next book.
