Synopsis: A sweet and steamy New Adult Romance from Amazon bestselling author of the Ruthless People series, J.J. McAvoy…
After an erotic one-week fling with a musician she meets in a bar, Thea Cunning never expects to see Levi Black again. Then Monday morning comes around, and she discovers that her former lover is not only her professor, but he’s also one of the top criminal lawyers in the state of Massachusetts.
With everyone in class vying to be one of the twelve disciples—a group of twelve students that Professor Black takes under his wing—tensions run high. Thea considers dropping his class, given their passionate week together and their undeniable chemistry. After all, there are other (less infuriatingly sexy) law professors on campus.
But to accomplish her goal and get her father out of prison, Thea knows she needs to learn under the best of the best—and that’s Levi Black.
But can she learn under the best, without being under the best?

EXCERPT #1.
“His teeth grazed my earlobe, and I could feel his breath, hot against my neck as he whispered, “I know you can be much louder than this, Thea. Moan for me. Come for me.”
“God! Yes!” I screamed, as I allowed myself to let go.
As my climax reached its peak, I threw my head back and dug my nails into his shoulders as though he were the only thing in the world that was holding me to the earth.
My lips parted as I watched him lick his fingers clean… as he licked me off of his fingers. I was sweating, and my breathing was ragged. My heart felt like it was going to explode out of my chest. I had climaxed, but I wanted more of him. I needed all of him.
I kissed him passionately, as I wrapped my legs around his waist to pull him in closer to me. As our tongues tasted and teased each other, I pressed myself against the length of him desperately trying to convey my need. Thankfully, he understood.
“Take me to your room,” he demanded, breaking our kiss.”
EXCERPT #2.
All too soon, class was over, and as people left, I found myself unable to move. There was so much that I wanted to say to him.
I stood up, taking a deep breath and hoping to stir up the courage to speak to him, when all of sudden, he walked right past me as if I wasn’t there.
“Levi—”
“It’s Professor Black, and class is over. If you wish to speak to me any time after class you’ll have to call the office and make an appointment. Good day, Ms. Cunning,” he replied, already out the door.
“Asshole,” I murmured under my breath.
But what did I expect? Were we just supposed to laugh it off and pretend like nothing had happened and that everything was okay?”
EXCERPT #3.
She snored. It wasn’t loud, or obnoxious; it was kind of cute actually. She was wrapped up in the sheets, her legs peeking out slightly, and she held on to my arm as she slept, but I didn’t mind. It was odd that I didn’t mind. I really didn’t know much about her, but I found myself wanting to know her.
“I can feel you staring at me,’ she whispered, as she shifted beneath the sheets.
“You snore.”
“I do not!” she shot back immediately, sounding both embarrassed, and hurt at my remark.
I laughed. “You do.”
“I know,” she gave in with a laugh, as she covered her face with her hands.
“It’s alright, it’s actually cute.”
She looked at me for a moment, like she was trying to read me, but with a little sigh, she gave up and rose from her position and stepped out of bed, taking the sheets with her.
“I’m going to take a shower.”
“Okay, then I’ll make us something to eat,” I said, already on my feet.
She paused turning back to me, “You cook too?”
“Yes?”
“Please tell me it’s like, only eggs or something.”
“What? No, I can cook.”
“Damn it, Levi, I like my men just under perfect, thank you!”
“Would you like me to burn one side of the toast?”
“You’d better.” She glared and I kissed her lips quickly.
“Don’t worry Thea, I’m nowhere near perfect.”
“So you say.”
She kissed me back once more before she headed into the bathroom.
“You’re amazingly weird, has anyone ever told you that?”
“It’s all part of my charm, Mr. Black.”
Snickering, I shook my head at her and headed into the kitchen, wondering whether or not she really wanted me to burn her toast.
“I’ll just make one burnt and the other one fine.”
What was happening to me?”
EXCERPT #4.
“Oh please, don’t say sorry, this is embarrassing enough as it is. So much for me trying to be sexy,” I sighed.
Goddamn it! I forgot I had it on. Why, God? Why?!
“You’re sexy without even trying,” he said, as he planted a light kiss on my kneecap, “now stop ruining this for me.”
I remained silent, allowing him to finish bandaging me up. At least I had finished ninety percent of shaving my legs before I got hurt.
“I’ll finish breakfast, while you get ready,” he said, as he stood back from me.
“Reaching up, I grabbed the edge of his shirt, and as I sat up on to the bed, I allowed the towel to fall. He swallowed, his eyes fixated on every inch of me.
EXCERPT #5.
“I did it because I wanted to know more about you, and so I pushed you when I shouldn’t have. I’m the one who should be apologizing to you, I’m the one who’s sorry,” I said before she could interrupt me.
Her head dropped, along with my heart. “You’re an ass.”
“I know.”
“You didn’t have to follow me.”
“I know.”
Lifting her chin her up, I forced her to look at me. “I’m not.”
“You’re thinking it.”
“I definitely am not,” I said softly, as I ran my thumb over her bottom lip.
She’s so close to me…
“I should go.”
“Okay.”
Neither of us moved.
If she kissed me now, she would become a student who knowingly seduced her professor, and if I kissed her now, I would become a professor who preyed on my student. Either way, we were both screwed, so fuck it.
Leaning down, I closed the gap between us. In that moment, everything I had been suppressing for the last month came rushing back to me.
EXCERPT #6.
“The distance, no matter how small, between us was enough to drive me mad. He brushed my hair aside and kissed my neck, each step towards my bedroom felt to long… too damn far away. And I couldn’t help but want to stay in his arms longer. I loved how he touched all of me with no reservations.
“This is a clothes free zone,” I whispered, as we finally entered my room. To illustrate my point, I rid myself of my bra as I stepped though the threshold. “House rule.”
“Who am I to go against the house rules?” he muttered, unbuttoning his shirt. I lay back on my bed watching him. “Aren’t you going to help?” he asked.
